ventriloquism

If you don't know what that means, read up!

Ventriloquism is an act of stagecraft in which a person (a ventriloquist) manipulates his or her voice so that it appears that the voice is coming from elsewhere. The act of ventriloquist is ventriloquism.

In layman terms, its like talking without moving your mouth, that is to convince your audience that your puppet is actually talking, when you're making the sound.

I was greatly hooked on to ventriloquism, thanks to a certain individual, oh wait, 2 individuals actually, so much so that i really wanted to learn this art. Oh well, it takes time.

Anyway, about my 2 ventriloquist heroes, Terry Fator and Jeff Dunham.

Terry Fator, which impersonates singers, great singers such as Tony Bennett or even Louis Armstrong, usually connects with his audience with a singing piece. He was after all, the champion of the America's Got Talent 07' competition. And if you don't know what TV Program is that, heh, watch more TV.

Jeff Dunham, popular for his puppets, such as Walter, Peanut and Jose Jalapeno ( Pepper on a stick), does comical acts and jokes on stage. I loveLOVE Walter, a grumpy old man in his 50's who has a very very negative view of modern life. He always makes jokes about his wife too.

Here they are, starting with Terry Fator, singing, "At Last",

Just fantastic, how in the world he projects his voice that well, with his mouth shut?!

Jeff Dunham, the funky comedian,

There are more of his acts, featuring Walter,

Really, really entertaining.

Love em!

event coverage

Before i get onto my past events, yeah backlog of cases, since i had very little time to blog a month ago, just a short notice, i will be leaving for Langkawi on the 16th to the 19th of December. Many thanks to a certain person, Ee Fei who provided me with a tip off for cheap Air Asia tickets.

The whole 16 of us managed to book tickets at an amazingly low price of RM7.77 one way, and a return ticket at a stunningly low price of Rm7.77 too. When airport tax and fuel surcharge is added in, the total, grand total is only standing at RM104.99, for a return tix, mind you. Yeah, it is that hell cheap, imagine, only rm 50 plus for a one way ticket there. Heck, even the buses can't beat this, well only maybe they can match this. But then, it's gonna be a 9 hour long ride, and you'll have to sit the ferry. Oh god, don't get started on the danger.

Jeng jeng jeng..... 9 persons for only RM 940.86. Oh well, the could only handle 9 names at one time, and we were scared as hell that when we returned to book the other 7 names, the special price offer would be taken off. Thank god it was still on.

Yeah, and then just out of curiosity, i checked the Malaysia Airlines website to see how much a single return ticket to langkawi would cost, and i started clicking away....

Hah. HAH. Rm 572 for a return tix.

And now when i put it side by side with my Air Asia offer, i can just laugh at what we all made. Compare RM572 to RM 104.99. Yes, although i know MAS serves food and board and of course their seats are a tad more spacious, but cmon, it's only a 45 mins flight.

Who gives a damn?! Its the cost that matters. Hehe

Alright, i know i should not get too excited about this trip, as there is still stpm to look forward to. I'll keep you guys tuned in for more updates on the getaway, but for the time being....

You guys gotta love events, be it a party or a celebration dinner. The food will kill you man!

Maybe i should just introduce some of my family member to you guys first, before we get on down to the juicy details of the menu.

My cousins. Or wait, i think i am supposed to be an uncle to them. Yesss. i am as old as an uncle already. And most of them are only abt 2-3 years younger than me, averagely.

My aunt + relative uncle. We all call him Mr Taliban. Just check out his mustache. Man, that's a winner definitely.

A celebration is NEVER complete without booze. But then again, you guys ought to award me a gold medal for only taking in 1 a glass of black label. 1 glass only lahh. Yeah, i was driving.

The main star of the night, the baby. Oh well, babies get even much cuter when the age by the months, don't they?

Red hard boiled eggs. A custom at every full moon event. Or was it, birthday?

Shark's fin. Not really up to standard, but oh well, still manageable.

The chicken was quite good, juicy and delicious.

when was the last time, you had

Yessss... when was the last moment or time you had Kenny Rogers?! For me, i think it was a good one year ago. Oh well, as far as I'm concerned, they serve pretty good roasted chicken.

Oh well, actually it was more like an old-friends reunion for a few of us. Taking a few hours of study won't kill right?

Quarter chix meal with their kick ass side dishes. Oh well, the potato salad is another winner.

Their muffin buns are just simply great. Each and everyone bursting with flavor and aroma when it goes down into your stomach, i give them the Gold Medal Award for their muffins.

How can you now love this jacket potato by just looking at it. Here goes, the cheese is melted over chicken, tomato and corn strips, and this helluva goodness is stuff into the salt-baked potato. Wow, that all so much that i can fit it.

This was my meal. Yeah call me a potato freak, but then i absolutely adore them. Yeah, i might even consider getting married with a potato.

Yeah, the girls of the evening, or should i say, my darlings. Haha. Haven't seen then in like ages.

and yes, being girls they decided to pose with.......

Soup, yeah you heard me right. Soup models. Haha, ok lah, boleh jadi model lah. Looks really steamy and delicious eh. Er yah, i was referring to the soup.

This pose of me and ken hui is so typical. Scroll to my older posts, and i bet withcha, you can find the exact same posing style.

All right, that's all.

the ice experiment

A couple of weeks ago, out of curiosity, a few of my classmates decided to execute the long awaited, ice block piercing exp.

King Wei on the left, with Kok Hui who got the huge ass ice block.

The team that made this possible. Yeah right. Ironically, all of us chose to wear the f6 council t shirt on that day.

Setting it up.

Alright, i'll explain the basis or the science behind this experiment. I found a website give good short and concise reviews, without too much chemistry crap. Here it is,

Slicing ice
Follow these instructions to slice ice without splitting it and learn how pressure affects ice.

* What you need
* What to do
* What’s happening?

Can you think of a way to cut right through a big chunk of ice – without breaking it? It is possible, and we'll show you how!
What you need

To do this experiment you will need:

a large iceblock (freeze some water in a plastic bowl)
a length of flexible wire
two heavy weights
a narrow board
somewhere to perform the experiment – a bathtub is ideal.

What to do

1. Place the iceblock on a narrow board across the bathtub.
2. Attach a weight to each end of the wire.
3. Lay the wire across the top of the ice, with the two weights hanging down on either side.
4. Take a look every 30 minutes or so.

What’s happening?

The weight on the wire causes the ice to melt, just where the wire touches the ice. The wire will gradually cut down through the ice, but the ice will re-freeze above it. After a while your wire will be embedded well inside the block of ice. Eventually it will cut all the way down through the block – and yet the block will still be whole.

Pressure on ice lowers its melting point. So pressing on a particular area of ice will make only that part melt, and only briefly. Then the surrounding temperature of the ice will cause the melted ice to freeze again.

You can see this in action with ice-skates. All of your weight rests on the two thin steel blades of the skates. This great pressure causes the ice directly under the blade to melt. So the blade slips easily across the ice on a very thin layer of water. As soon as the skate moves away, the surrounding ice freezes that water again. If you tried to use ice-skates on a concrete skating rink, you wouldn’t get anywhere at all.

And so, as the instructions said, we place the wire with weights, (we used 1.5litre bottles as weights) across the ice block.

This is how we set it up. Look closely at the wire in the middle, resting on the mid of the ice.

Close-up view of the wire on the ice block.

And yes, we left it standing there for a couple a mins, oh wait, around 1/2 hour, at then ta-daaa, when we got back, the wire got embedded into the ice.

Look closely and you'll see that the sides of the wires on the block are already in.

And awhile more, the wire gets deeper inside.

Yeahh..... Doesn't take a genius to figure out that the wire eventually "pierced" through the whole ice block, yet the whole block was still intact.

And yeah, boys being boys, we tortured the ice block with foreign objects, such as

Wah kesian lah, and of course we left the best for the last bit, Kok Hui karate-chopped the ice....

Here's the video of it......

Yeah, typical boys lah. More events to come, on my next post.

food post for a comeback

Edit : Car repair bills costs almost half a thousand. Yeah, my car's air con compressor and coolant pipes gave way. Damn damn, my parents are like grumbling at me right now.

Yes, it's time for a little treat, since i've been absent so long. Anyway, firstly, it's time for a food post.

Quote from Wikipedia :

SUBWAY® is the name of a franchise that mainly sells sandwiches and salads. It was founded in 1965 by Fred De Luca and Peter Buck. The corporation that owns the trademarked name of Subway is Doctor's Associates, Inc. (DAI). The company has over 28,274 franchised units in 87 countries[1] as of 23 September 2007 and is the fastest growing franchise in the world. It added over 2,000 locations in 2005.

I love subway sandwiches if you guys din't know it. And since, i had the craving today, hahaha

I got myself one. And oh joy, they're opening a new outlet in Kelana Jaya, near my house. Doube Joy.

So what actually is a subway sandwich?

It's just godsend. I ordered the turkey breast, smoked turkey and the breakfast strips combination, and damnn, that was one of the best combo's i've ever eaten.

Mmm, oh well, it's best eaten messy. Haha
